My career with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office began in 2013 when I was accepted as an academy recruit. After successful completion of the academy, I was assigned to the Main Jail as an on-call deputy. In January 2015, I was picked up as a full time Sheriff’s Deputy. I spent just over two years at the Main Jail, where I became a Jail Training Officer.
In 2017, I transferred to Field Services and was assigned to North Patrol. After several years in patrol, I became interested in the canine detail and started volunteering at weekly trainings. I volunteered consistency and enjoyed learning the many aspects of what it meant to be a canine handler. In 2020, I tested for an open position on the team. I continued volunteering and in 2021 I was lucky enough to be selected as the first ever K914.
As a new handler, I was quickly paired with a 16 month old, high energy Belgian Malinois named Philbert. Just like me, K9 Philbert was new to the team. We began training together and quickly bonded over tug toys and chuck-it balls. After several months of training together, we were ready to work patrol together.
K9 Philbert loves working patrol and runs to the patrol car every day to wait for me. On his days off, K9 Philbert enjoys letting me know he wants to go to work, but he also enjoys running around the yard and playing tug. I couldn’t ask for a better partner to work with!
